(19) Albert George Farr

Died in the Arras Sector

Private Albert George Farr (19) was a native of South Benfleet and was born in 2nd Qtr. 1888 to Eliza Ann Farr. In 1911 the census shows she is widowed and is a shopkeeper at Victoria House.

In 1911 he is shown as being a house painter living at “Oakleigh”, New Thundersley. He is living with his wife Ruth and has two daughters: Louisa and May. In the 3rd Qtr. 1916 the records show he formally marries Ruth Say almost certainly just prior to being posted to France.

He enlisted at Warley in July 1916 into the 9th Battalion the Essex Regiment. In early 1917 they were assigned to the Arras sector of the front. While there he died of wounds on 24th March 1917 aged 28. He was the brother of Frederick Edwin Farr (28).
