(20) Albert William Peters
Died of wounds on the Western Front
Private Albert William Peters (20) was born on 26th October 1887 in Clapton, Middlesex to William Alfred and Elizabeth Esther Peters. He went to Glyn Road School in Hackney on 26th August 1891. In 1911 he is shown as living with his parents at 6 Chelmer Road, Homerton and he worked as a spectacle maker.
He joined the 1st Battalion the Essex Regiment and was assigned to the Western Front. There he died of wounds on 23rd April 1917 in Flanders aged 30.
At the time of his death his family were living in Shenfield. There must be a connection with South Benfleet as he formed part of a memorial service run by St Marys Church on 10th June 1917, but we have no record in 1918 of any family in Benfleet.
