Helen’s family moved from the Peak District to Benfleet in 1931 when she was 3, so that her father could take up the post of organist at St Mary’s Church. Working mostly in watercolour she was very much an outdoor artist, roaming the open spaces and capturing the “village” feel of the time. A recording of her memories covering the period 1931 to 1952 has been added to this website.
