(34) John Maclure

Killed with sinking of SS Mesaba

John Maclure (34) was the Chief Steward on the SS Mesaba. He was born in Glasgow on 16th October 1870 to John and Margaret Maclure. He married Ada Amelia Rice on 24th February 1915 in Christ Church, South Hackney, London. They then lived at “Avondale”, Thundersley Park Road.

The SS Mesaba was sunk on the 1st September 1918 by submarine UB118 commanded by Kapitänleutnant Hermann Arthur Krauß. Twenty of the crew died including John Maclure who drowned, aged 48.
