  • This is my great great uncle. He was not originally from Benfleet, but after marrying Annie Shaw, my nan’s aunt, they lived in Thundersely Church Road. He was in the army and was wounded in Belgium. He was taken to a hospital in Bath and later died from serious head injuries. He was the uncle of sapper John Pratt who is buried near him in St. Mary’s  church.
