South Benfleet Bowling Club - circa 1955

Could this be the opening of the Pavilion?

This photo is of the South Benfleet Bowling Club circa 1955.  A lady, centre front, is holding a celebration cake. Could it be the opening of the Pavilion?

George Foster, who owned the cycle shop in the High Road, is one person in this picture that has been identified. If anyone has any further information or can name some of the people in this photo, we would be pleased to hear via  ‘add a comment’ at the bottom of this page.

  • The man four in from the left wearing a cap is my granddad Bert Lazell who set up and ran the local building company on London Road at the bottom of Bread & Cheese hill. His wife “Nellie”, my grandmother is sitting front row middle holding a hat (or is it a cake) on her lap.
