Henry Stacy Marks (1829-1898) was by all accounts a brilliant bird painter and a notorious practical joker.
However he travelled frequently with fellow artists and found much to draw in Essex and Suffolk. This Benfleet sketch is taken from his book entitled Pen and pencil sketches, volume 1 (1894).
