The ‘Potted History of Thundersley School’ was written by Jeanette Quantrill nee Case, former pupil of Thundersley Primary School. Jeanette attended the school in the late 60s/early 70s, later moving up to The Deanes School.
This comprehensive history was compiled and written by Jeanette whilst she was attending senior school and it formed part of her school work, gaining her an impressive mark.
It is a joy to read, having been very well researched. At the end of the history is an enlightening eight page section entitled Miscellaneous. This document has the dates and key events that happened, in chronological order, from 1921 through to 1971.
The history begins in September 1921, the official opening day of the school. It covers all aspects of school life including the different Headmasters over the years, the design and colour of the uniform, the war years, school meals and much more.
Some of the photos and documents are shown below but the ‘Potted History’ can be viewed in full by clicking on the two links at the bottom of this page.
Benfleet Community Archive would like to thank the staff at Thundersley School for allowing us to borrow and copy not only Jeanette’s ‘Potted History’ but also the school’s Log Book and Minute Book, together with photo albums that are now available to view on this site.
Jeanette has kindly given us permission to publish this ‘Potted History’ in full and it can be read by clicking the links below.
