This picture shows Benfleet High Street in 1900. A very gentle and peaceful street. 

This picture shows it in 2011. A very busy street with some of the buildings still remaining but many that are not. This picture was not taken from exactly the same point as you can see St Mary’s tower in this one and not in the other. However to get exactly the same angle would have required standing in the middle of the road!
