Castlepoint Council have an art collection ! What ! No you are right the first time – not a collection in the sense that someone has purposely built up a selection of paintings, sculptures etc, . There is no gallery, no curator, but nevertheless the walls of the Kiln Road offices are hung with pictures presented to the council to mark some distant event, often lost in the mists of time. But a collection of sorts….
I have selected eight as examples…the first two of which reflect our twinning relationship with Romainville in France and are well documented. Of the other six, five are signed and one is not. They are all local scenes, but the reason why they are there is lost ….so if you can enlighten us, we would be delighted.
