Hadleigh Olympic Torch - Mountain Bike Section

Dan Jarvis carries the Torch around the track

Mountain bike commentator Dan Jarvis has championed the Hadleigh Mountain Bike track for the Olympics. He in fact started his own competitive career on Benfleet Downs. He was therefore very proud to be given the opportunity to to be a Torchbearer and ride the torch around the Mountain Bike Track.

One interview he gave stated that he thought the bike would have a holder for the torch. The photos showed it did not, so he successfully rode around a competition level track, sometimes one handed, and passed the flame on to Torchbearer 92, Kim Axford from Canvey Island. He earlier received the flame from Torchbearer 91, Paul Mears. Dan does not appear to have a number!

There is a good news report about Dan Jarvis on the BBC website. Our thanks to Jennifer Spencer-Charles of Essex County Council for supplying these photographs by Nick Strugnell.
