  • Hello to Benfleet. Not sure if you have to contact Paddy Marrison (my cousin) officially, to have the above Station Master photo titled ‘Harry Robert Towshend’ switched to be correctly named as ‘Robert Henry Townshend’, who it is. (The headstone photos below his photo will verify the dates, and that Harry Townshend is Robert the Station Master’s son, all my cousins great-grandpa) Greetings to All in Benfleet – it is a joy to read of and see the photos of all those I remember as a young child in Benfleet – Thank You, Penny in the Yukon, Canada…

  • Good for you Paddy and Bobby! Please check if this is actually “Robert” T, the father of Nana’s dad “Harry” T. How super to see Great Aunt Bertha’s g’daughter on site – Liz Sewell. I remember Gerald of course. So here’s to good old Benfleet and You All. Penny and family in the Yukon, Canada (and of NZ)…

  • How wonderful to find a photo of my great grandfather. My grandmother was Bertha Sharrock (nee Townshend), Harry’s daughter. I can just about remember visiting Benfleet with my father, Gerald, as a child. I am sure this usually took place around Christmas time and involved collecting turkeys!!  I have been researching my family tree and this site is a treasure.
