Appleton School Production 1976

Toad of Toad Hall

[Editor’s Note]:  I have just received these three photographs to add to the Appleton School section. Andrew Thrush attended Appleton School from 1974 – 1979 and took the lead role in the production of Toad of Toad Hall in 1976.

If anyone can name any more of the cast, it would be most welcome.  Click this link to see a copy of the programme.  Those which can be named are, Front Row far left, Deborah Evans (Nurse); next to her, in pinafore, Jill Sims (Marigold); far right, Andrew Thrush (Toad); to his immediate right, Graham Kelly (Badger).

Second and third rows are intermingled. Those in masks are unidentifiable. Far left, boy with shock of dark hair, Robert Stevenson (Mole); two places to his right, Helen Drewer (Washerwoman); boy to her right , Jason Taylor (Water Rat); to his right, in smooth wig, Ian Sweetlove (Usher); next to him, boy in ruffled wig, Paul Sims (Judge). Far end of row, in headscarf, Eve Bevan (Bargewoman).

Just to the left of Helen Drewer’s left shoulder is Mr. Sammons, the show’s musical director. Behind him, to his left, is Mrs. Mills. She took over the job of director after Mrs. Petherick fell ill. Mrs. Mills went unmentioned on the programme, but without her the play would not have happened. Mrs. Petherick is not in the cast photo.
