King John Year of 1963 Reunion

King John year of 1963 Reunion
Roger Taylor

Reunion of the year of 1963 took place on 1st October 1983 at The Hollywood Restaurant, Shipwrights Drive and there were over 70 pupils and 4 teachers, Messrs Ashton, Lawton, Neale and Regan.

The event was initially organised by Fred Simpkins with assistance from Roger Taylor, however, on the night Fred was stuck working in Saudi Arabia and couldn’t attend.

Funds were raised for the event with a jumble sale at St George’s Church Hall,  Rushbottom Lane on Sat 9th July 1983 and we raised the princely sum of £55.25 towards the costs.

We had a buffet for 132 people which included partners, so a great night with lots of memories and a portion of amnesia here and there.

We are all 70 this year and for those still standing maybe a get together?

  • Chris,

Just had a mini reunion at the ZAC WILLSHER pub this week and faces such as Doug Wilson, Ray Norton, Tony Herring, Fred Simpkins, Geoff Wall, Alan Eaton, Dick Collie, Roy Willis turned up. Fred and I are getting together to see who else we can get in touch with as we are all 70 this year!! Maybe a 70’s disco night?

  • I had the ‘privilege’ of being in 5EXT and Mr Neale was our form teacher in the middle science lab. This class was all male, which wasn’t the best start in my opinion, having also been in the class that was ‘bussed’ to Basildon Woodlands, an all-boys school. Our teacher was Mr Mansfield, a history graduate, and a very decent man.
