South Benfleet Remembers
Honouring the Fallen - 12th November 2023
Once again the people of Benfleet have attended a moving ceremony to remember the fallen. On a rainy Sunday morning residents gathered around the Essex Way War Memorials to give thanks and lay their own tributes.
“At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them”.
County Councillor Andrew Sheldon writes –
“Well done to the people of Benfleet who turned out to remember our honoured dead and give thanks to those who fought in the cause of freedom.
“The turnout was exceptional despite the rain.
“Massive thanks to Father Ben Drury who led the service and all his team at St Mary’s Church, to all of those who came to lay wreaths especially local veterans and our uniformed youth groups, and to The Southend Band for providing excellent musical accompaniment to the service.”
