On 12 August 1943, the crew of a Stirling III Bomber, took off from RAF Chedburgh, Suffolk.  Within a few hours all crew died when their bomber crashed at Mittainvilliers, Northern France.

All the crew were buried in the St-Desir War Cemetery, France.  They lay together in a collective grave, reference, VIII. A. 1-8.  Each crew member has their own headstone supplied by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
