Benfleet Christmas Lights and Tree 2019

On Saturday 30th November they were switched on

The 3rd annual switching on of the Benfleet Christmas lights and Tree took place on Saturday the 30th November. Unlike other parts of Castle Point Borough (CPDC), Benfleet has to raise the funds for its own Christmas tree and this effort is led by the Benfleet Christmas Action Group. As a result thanks are due to  CPDC who are providing half the street light decorations, Essex County Skips donated the tree, Hanson Hire loaned some scaffolding to enable the tree to be decorated, farmer John Frost of Reeds Hill Farm used his heavy lift equipment to move the tree on several occasions, The Oasis Christian  Centre allows the use of their land to display the tree  and pay the electricity bill for the tree lights, and local shopkeepers have supported the fund raising.

The tree lighting up was preceded by a children’s choir singing and then the lights were switched  on by this year’s local hero, farmer John Frost. There then followed a few fireworks and a small fair in the South Benfleet Primary School playground.

Congratulations to Janice Gray and the Benfleet Christmas Action Group for their continued efforts to give Benfleet a tree and lights.

A rare sight. A Police Officer in Benfleet to watch over the proceedings!
