"Blood Moon" over Benfleet

Super Moon Lunar Eclipse 28th September 2015

The 2015 Lunar Eclipse (or Blood Moon) occurred on the 28th September 2015. The partial eclipse started at 2.07 am. The full eclipse lasted from 3.11 am to 4.23 am. The partial eclipse ended at 5.27 am. The next full lunar eclipse viewable from Benfleet will not be until 21st January 2019.

This eclipse was also a Super Moon eclipse where the  moon is at its largest. The next occurrence of a Super Moon Lunar Eclipse is not until the 8th October 2033, but it will not be visible from Benfleet.

This is obviously a rare event to be observed from Benfleet and for once the skies were clear and a good view could be had. I stayed up and managed to get these pictures.

  • With the super blood moon that recently happened and a handful of really cool moon events throughout the rest of the year, We wrote a mega guide that fully explains how to photograph the moon.

It is written by one of us who actually is out there every night photographing the night sky (so we know what we’re doing). https://nightskypix.com/how-to-photograph-the-moon/

  • Hi Vanity,
Yes I did. The black line was a vapour trail of an aeroplane flying high.
