Not all glory then !

The military biplane which ran out of fuel and landed at Benfleet in 1913.

Lieutenant W Parker was taking part in manoeuvres and was en-route from Rugby to Eastchurch when he ran out of fuel. Presumably early fuel gauges  were not  100% reliable. He was accompanied on his flight by Mr J Hosking,  a mechanic.  Aeroplanes were in their infancy  and attracted huge interest whenever they appeared…Benfleet being no exception. Among the crowd was the Reverend Box.
