'Then and Now' views of Church Corner

The pictures below show how much change has taken place over the years in the area of Church Corner.

The top picture shows St. Mary's Church, Benfleet, in 1909. The children are, left to right, Edna Quilter, Ruby Ross, Olive Ross and Digby Young.

The top picture shows Church Corner viewed from Endway c. early 1920s. The war Memorial was built in 1921, the Village Institute and Knightley's shop were demolished c.1930.

The 'Then' picture shows officials from Benfleet Urban District Council announcing to the local people, in February 1952, the accession of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The larger building to the right of the War Memorial was the Clock House Café and next to that was the Westminster Bank.
