I went to Jotmans Primary School in 1958, and was born in Jotmans Lane. We spent our childhood at Jotmans Farm watching the cows being milked, and then further up the lane watched the steam trains going under the bridge.

I was made to go to Sunday school and Girls’ Life Brigade at the Baptist church in Benfleet and went dancing at the John Bosco hall in Benfleet.

I wish I had photos of this time but sadly not.

[Editor – I have added a library photograph showing some of the Girls’ Life Brigade, albeit from an earlier date].

The Girls’ Life Brigade went to the Albert Hall where we all took part as ” Jewels” doing our dance which eventually made a crown viewed from above. I would have really liked a photo of this if anyone has one. I was a sapphire. Our leader was Mrs Jordon. My family grew up in Benfleet so we all have many memories.
