54th CLESC Battalion of the Homeguard

1944

The photo below is of the Home Guard at Benfleet, taken in 1944.  It is the 54th CLESC (County of London Electricity Supply Company) Battalion.

Their depot was next to the Anchor pub and in the High Road between  St Mary’s Close and the St Mary’s church with the offices in, I think, Green Road. I do not believe they were in the Close.

My dad, Arthur, was 4th from right in the back row. Some other names; Bill and Charlie Day, Bob Last, Bill Butterfield and I think ? Mckerow.

  • Hello! Thank you for this page! My great grandfather was Edwin Victor Charles Bailey but known as “Bill” and was part of this! Do you have any more photos?

Thank you for your comment. I am afraid that we do not have any more photos in the Archive but maybe one of our readers could help.
