Mary Cameron Ross Bunce, a professional Marine artist and a resident of Oakfield Close, Benfleet in the late 70s, was commissioned to paint the Houses of Parliament for presentation to Ted Heath. Other commissions have come from the Royal Navy and oil companies with sea rigs. Her exhibition credits include the Royal Society of Marine Artists exhibition at the Guild Hall in London.
We have not as yet seen any works featuring Benfleet, but with the proximity of the creek it seemsĀ highly likely that there are examples out there. If you have one, we would love to scan a copy for the website. In the meantime there is an Echo newspaper photo of the artist andĀ samples of her work.
