Teenettes

The double-fronted 'Belgravia Florist' taken circa 1970. 'Teenettes' would have been one of these units.

My mother owned a shop at 190 High Road Benfleet from 1959 until 1965. It was called Teenettes (I think). It sold everything that the modern woman of that time would need, such as wool, haberdashery items, childrens clothes etc. I can remember my father and mother decorating the large front window every Christmas together with wooden Christmas trees with lights over the front entrance. Unfortunately I do not have any photos of the shop and I was wondering if anyone may have an old photo of that part of the High Road from that time. Nowadays Belgravia florist shop stands next door to my mums shop where I believe Camping and General had their first shop before moving to Canvey.

[Editor – I have added a later photograph, kindly found by my colleague, Jenny Day, which from the cars, looks to be 1970s. This shows the double-fronted Belgravia Florist shop, part of which would have been ‘Teenettes’ , when the shop was two units].
